ALV-6010 / 160, Ultra-Fast External Correlator (EPP Communication)

For all such applications, requiring ultra-fast sampling times below 10 ns. The ALV-6010 Correlator Series can either be used in the ALV-5000/EPP compatibility mode (125 ns STC SINGLE MODE, 250 ns DUAL MODE), or at 5 ns (6.25 ns) initial STC, whenever the fast sampling times are required. In contrast to the ALV-5000/EPP compatibility mode, the FAST MODE always is a cross correlation mode - at such fast sampling times, the use of auto correlation would turn out to be absolutely useless anyway - even very good single photon detectors can not be used below 100 ns sampling / lag time without imposing strong distortions (afterpulsing and dead times) to the resulting correlation function. Using cross or “pseudo cross” correlation totally overcomes this problem (see as well the SINGLE PHOTON DETECTION section of this homepage).

Technical Data

Up to 328 Multiple Tau auto or cross correlation channels

  • based on the ALV-MTCF 0.7 µm digital ASIC
  • 125 ns initial STC in SINGLE MODE, auto or cross correlation
  • ALV-6010-160 has 6.25 ns in FAST MODE
FAST MODE is a cross correlation mode only
  • DUAL mode for two independent auto correlation functions with 250 ns initial sampling time
  • Inidividual channel and block monitor channels to allow symmetric normalization
  • 2 x TTL (50 Ohm) counting input, up to 125 MHz input count rate
  • 8 x 8 bit (channel 0 ... 95) and 32 x 32 bit (channel 96 ... 288) input data format
blockwise bit increase for the first 32 channels in FAST MODE
  • WINDOWS-NT-4.0/2000/XP control and data reduction software
  • Connection to the PC via EPP (additional PCI based EPP board is part of the delivery)

Application

  • Ultra-fast Dynamic Light Scattering and Diffusing Wave Spectroscopy
  • Ultra-fast Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy
  • General Correlation Application

Important Note !

For best performance in FAST MODE, the ALV-6010/160 should be used with specially optimized single photon detectors, such as the ALV-SO/SIPD-II or the ALV-DUAL High Q.E. APD !
